What To Expect

We know that strange places, smells and sometimes even car rides can be stressful for your pet. That is why Heart and Hands can make things easier and come to you! We offer house calls within a geographic area, and can travel outside of the area, for an additional travel fee. You are also welcome to come to us if that is preferable. We are located near Chatsworth.

The Initial Appointment

Please schedule your appointment at a time when your dog is not expecting a meal and it’s a good idea to take your dog for a walk to potty before the massage therapist arrives. Expect the initial massage therapy treatment to be 60-90 minutes. Your dog may immediately relax or it may take ten minutes or even several sessions. Each dog is different and we will work with what your dog is most comfortable with. Sometimes this means the dog may need a break during the massage therapy. Usually a dog relaxes after ten to fifteen minutes but our massage therapist is happy to work with whatever your dog needs.

The Session

A massage therapy treatment is 60 minutes and includes Swedish massage, craniosacral therapy, connective tissue work, stretching of all joints and range-of-motion. Many dogs completely relax during massage therapy and some fall asleep.

After the Session

Your dog will probably sleep after the massage. Don’t be surprised if your dog also sleeps more throughout the following day. When working with dogs who are limping or stiff, therapy may immediately improve flexibility and mobility. However, more commonly it may take several visits. The most effective treatment for an arthritic dog is to schedule a massage therapy session weekly.
